May 27 — Officers received a report of a 2015 Toyota Sienna Van being stolen from the 200 block of 17th Street SW. The owner said he must have left the keys in it overnight. An officer had him complete the paperwork, which was faxed to dispatch to have entered. Later the same morning, the officer located the vehicle parked in the Bank of the Pacific parking lot and let the owner know where it was. The owner then remembered leaving it there.

Eric A. Johnson, 55, of Ilwaco, was cited for fourth-degree assault-domestic violence after officers responded to a report of an assault at an address on Lake Street SE in Ilwaco. A male subject reported being sprayed by a fire extinguisher by Johnson, his roommate of one month. Johnson refused to open the front door of his residence when officers knocked. An officer spoke with him through the front door, and he admitted to spraying the roommate with the fire extinguisher because he caught him “smoking fentanyl” and he refused to leave when asked to do so. Based on the parties’ statements, officers developed probable cause to arrest Johnson for assault. Johnson “had no intention of coming out of his residence and the only means for us to affect an arrest would have been to obtain a search warrant. Eric made a statement that if we entered, we were going to have to ‘shoot it out.’” To prevent any further escalation, officers chose to leave the scene and refer charges to the prosecutor.

An officer responded to the Ilwaco Marina after a vehicle in the parking lot had fuel stolen from it. The owner of the vehicle said he saw a female next to the vehicle when he came to the parking lot. He said the female was very nervous. She was described as having dyed dark hair, 45-50 years of age and light blue eyes. Her vehicle was described as a fairly new Toyota van, kind of brown-ish in color. While en route to this incident, the officer passed a Toyota Sienna van and conducted a records check on it. The van was later reported as a suspicious vehicle in Long Beach and the officer was able to identify the driver and passenger. The investigation is continuing.

May 31 — An Ilwaco resident reported that someone got a hold of her credit card and has racked up charges of approximately $4,500. She had contacted her bank and they told her to let an officer know. She thinks she knows who did it but does not want to pursue charges at this time and only wanted to have it documented.

A Long Beach resident reported that about half a tank of gas was missing from his white van. He said this could have happened anytime in the preceding two weeks.

June 1 — A Long Beach Supermart employee reported that a subject possibly stole alcohol before leaving the store. The employee was helping another customer when he noticed the subject opening the beer cooler. When the subject walked up to the register the cashier asked him what he had. The subject removed a can of ice tea from his blue coat, placed it on the counter and then departed southbound on foot. The officer was unable to locate the suspect.

A Long Beach resident found a dead bat in her house and didn’t know what to do with it and was afraid to touch it. An officer stopped by and disposed of the deceased bat, and provided some recommendations to keep future bats from entering the residence.
