SOUTH BEND — The following cases saw significant progress during the criminal docket of the Pacific County Superior Court on May 17, 2024:

David W. Ketron, 37 — After 18 years as a fugitive, Ketron was captured and booked into the Pacific County Jail.

He evaded authorities beginning July 14, 2006, when he failed to appear for an arraignment hearing. He had been charged with failing to register as a sex offender on June 29, 2005.

Ketron’s underlying conviction was in Cowlitz County Superior Court on Aug. 9, 2000, of three counts of first-degree rape of a child and one count of first-degree child molestation. Ketron was sentenced to 15-26 weeks of imprisonment on each count, with credit for 115 weeks of time served.

According to court records, Ketron registered an address on U Street in Ocean Park with the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 5, 2003. The agency checked his residence on Oct. 23, 2005, and learned he had moved. The registry listed the address for Ketron through at least February 2006.

Ketron appeared for a preliminary hearing in Pacific County Superior Court on May 2, and Judge Donald J. Richter ordered him held without bail and to undergo a competency evaluation.

On May 8, a psychologist evaluated him and determined he was competent enough to understand court proceedings and assist in his defense.

Richter scheduled a review hearing for June 7 and set a tentative trial date for July 2.

Shane C. Dunn, 37 — He pleaded guilty on April 5 to an amended charge of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and on April 19 to one count of second-degree theft. He was scheduled to be sentenced for each case.

According to court records, in the first case, Dunn cashed a fraudulent check at the Shoalwater Bay Casino, and in the second case he was apprehended during a traffic stop that turned up controlled substances.

Dunn faces sentencing ranges of 0-12 months for the first case and 2-6 months for the second case. The Pacific County Prosecutor’s Office is recommending he be sentenced to three months for each of the cases.

According to court records, Dunn did not show up for the hearings and Richter issued two $50,000 warrants for his arrest.
