Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball
The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball team (21-7) capped their remarkable season with a third place trophy in the WIAA 2B State Tournament last weekend in Yakima.
The eighth-seeded Titans went 4-1 over two days, including a 7-1 opening round win over No. 9 seed Northwest Christian before a narrow 3-2 loss to second-ranked Adna on Friday. On Saturday, the Titans smoked No. 12 seed Lake Rosevelt 18-3 before beating No. 10 seed Toledo 13-2 and fourth-ranked Kittitas 6-4 to finish third.
The Titans will lose two players to graduation, including second baseman Kylee Lyons and pitcher/first baseman Lauren Emery.
Naselle softball
The eighth-seeded Naselle softball team (7-13) finished their season after losing to top-ranked Liberty Christian 11-1 and No. 5 seed Mossyrock 25-5 last weekend in the WIAA 1B State Tournament in Yakima.
In the game against Mossyrock, Naselle eighth grader Avery Ford had two hits and a team-high two RBIs, followed by teammate Brooke Davis with two hits in three at-bats.
A young squad that included seven eighth graders, Naselle will only lose one senior to graduation: outfielder Avalon Sullivan.
