As she did at South Bend a couple of weeks ago, Willapa Valley senior Emily Wilson won the 100, 200 and 400; she placed third in javelin. Junior teammate Jasmin Solso won both the 1,600 and 3,200. Naselle’s Karsen Green placed third in the 3,200.

Senior Derek Suomela won four events. He won the 400 with a season-best time of 51.99 and the 800 in 2:14.44, six seconds ahead of the second-place runner. He had a season best jump of 6 feet to win the high jump and won the long jump with 18-9.5, eight inches ahead of Valley’s Chase Porter.

NHS classmate Jacob Pakenen won the pole vault, equalling his PR of 12-6 ahead of teammates Jason Gardner and Reilly Browning; Pakenen was second in discus with a PR of 111-05 and fourth in long jump.

Eighth grader Gus Burkhalter won the triple jump with a PR of 37-8.75, while freshman teammate Andy Rosas improved his PR to 36-10.5 for third.

In the 3,200, freshman Caesar Garcia placed third.

For throwing events, freshman Logan Wirkkala-Scheller had the highest finish, placing sixth in javelin with PR of 114-4, an event won by Willapa junior Cody Strozyk.
