After earning a first-round bye, the Ilwaco baseball team punched their ticket to the district semifinal with a resounding 7-0 shutout over Toledo Friday, May 3 at Tinker Field.

Ilwaco (15-3) will next take on Toutle Lake (19-2), who advanced by defeating Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 11-1.

Rogers shuts down ToledoIlwaco senior ace Jacob Rogers (3) threw a complete game, allowing only one hit and zero runs while striking out nine batters over seven innings to lead the Fishermen to a 7-0 shutout over Toledo in the second round of the district playoffs last weekend.

A game that started off as a pitching duel between Rogers and Toledo’s Caiden Schultz, was broken open in the bottom of the third inning when Ilwaco plated three runs, including an RBI single by Kaemon Sawa (9) and a two-run double by Kyle Morris (2), giving the Fishermen a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ilwaco continued to apply the pressure amid a steadily increasing rain as sophomore Dylan Pelas (11) drove a shot to deep center for a two-run double, extending the lead to 5-0. Sawa added his second RBI of the day and Ethan Hopkins (45) provided the final tally, ending in a 7-0 Ilwaco win.

Ilwaco is currently ranked eighth in the latest WIAA 2B state rankings among 48 teams.

Up next: Ilwaco will travel to take on Toutle Lake (19-2) on Tuesday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at Adna High School.

Ilwaco softball

The Ilwaco girls softball team fell to 8-7 overall on the season after losing a doubleheader to Ocosta last week.

The Lady Fishermen are in fifth place in league play at 2-5, trailing Ocosta, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley, Raymond and first-place Forks.

Ilwaco is currently ranked 22nd in the latest WIAA 2B state rankings among 47 teams.

Up next: Ilwaco will host Pe Ell/Willapa Valley (12-4) on Wednesday, May 8.

Naselle baseball

The Naselle baseball team closed out their regular season with a pair of shutout victories last week, including a 10-0 win over Mossyrock and a 31-0 thrashing against Mary M. Knight, brining the Comets to 13-3 on the season as they head into district playoffs.

The Comets are currently sixth in the WIAA 1B state rankings among 41 teams.

Up next: Naselle will host Oakville (8-7) on Tuesday, May 7.

Pe Ell/Willapa Valley baseball

The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley baseball team split their opening district playoff games, including a 9-7 victory over Wahkiakum before losing 11-1 to Toutle Lake, sending the Titans to a loser-out game against Toledo on Tuesday, May 7.

The Titans are ranked 11th in the most recent WIAA 2B state rankings among 48 teams.

Up next: The Titans (16-5) will face Toledo (13-10) on Tuesday, May 7.

Naselle softball

The Naselle softball team split their games last week, including a 17-2 win over Wishkah Valley and a 14-2 loss to Mossyrock, bringing their season record to 6-7 overall.

In the win against Wishkah Valley, the Comets scored 13 runs in the opening frame en route to a 17-2 three-inning mercy rule victory. Naselle finished with nine hits, led by Evelyn Normand who drove in five runs with two hits.

Up next: Naselle will host Montesano on Wednesday, May 9.
