Letter: Observer materials will be processed by museum

Published 3:40 pm Monday, April 22, 2024

The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum would like to thank Matt Winters and the Chinook Observer for their incredibly generous donation of primary research materials comprising hundreds of volumes of newspapers and thousands of photographs. We appreciate the trust that they have placed in us to preserve this important local resource and will make every effort to make it accessible for researchers and interested parties.

Due to the timing and size of this gift, there are needs that must be met at the museum before these volumes can be safely accessed by the public. Our Collections facility is reaching capacity and we are constantly working to manage our collection and find space for new donations. In addition, everything that comes into the museum must be catalogued and entered into our database. The museum runs on an all part-time staff and dedicated volunteers and managing our collection professionally takes time and thoughtfulness.

If you would like to support the museum in its mission to preserve and interpret our local history, please consider becoming a member. You can do so at our website www.columbiapacificheritagemuseum.org. If you would like to donate specifically to helping us store and catalogue the Chinook Observer archive, please reach out to Executive Director Madeline Matson by calling the museum at 360-642-3446.
