Letter: Does character still matter?

If you’re still supporting Donald Trump for president you’re effectively saying that morality, honesty, the rule of law and respect for democratic norms no longer matters.

You’re saying that 91 criminal incitements doesn’t matter. A guilty verdict for sexual assault and bank fraud in civil court doesn’t matter. Stealing from his charitable foundation doesn’t matter. Paying a foot doctor to write a phony bone spur excuse to avoid the Vietnam-era draft, and then calling wounded and dead soldiers losers and suckers doesn’t matter. Siding with Vladimir Putin in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine doesn’t matter. Lying about a stolen election and encouraging an insurrection doesn’t matter. And finally, you’re saying that Trump’s threat to suspend the Constitution, invoke the insurrection act and imprison his political opponents doesn’t matter either.
Folks, the character and integrity of our elected officials does matter. It matters a lot! And no matter how you try to excuse Donald Trump’s lifetime of criminality, immorality and dishonesty his behavior shows that he’s unfit to be our president.
So now, after everything that we’ve learned about Trump these last 15 years, if you still want that man to be your president, maybe you should do some serious soul searching starting with the questions: What are my values? What is it that really matters to me? What do I really believe in?
