Letter: Attending executive session raises questions

I read the letter to the editor written by Tracey Crook and the news articles concerning recently resigned teacher Sean Stern and his wife Amy Huntley, the superintendent of Ocean Beach School District. I compliment the Chinook Observer for what seems to be through coverage and thank Tracey for informing us of this situation.

I am confused how a superintendent of schools can justify any discussion of her husband’s employment or attendance at an executive session that discusses her husband’s departure. This is definitely a conflict of interest.
Any decision on the resolution of the employment of Sean Stern should have been made in executive session and then announced at a public meeting before those present, including Amy if she chose to attend. If the school board members allowed discussion of Sean’s standing with Amy present, it must have been their trust in Amy Huntley.
After the revelation of Sean’s monetary departure agreement and the events leading up to it, and after supporting a bond to close Ocean Park School, plus the bussing of Chinook children to Ocean Park School, I don’t feel the district can trust our superintendent’s judgment.
