Anthropology scholar to speak at museum

ILWACO — Author Jon D. Daehnke will speak at the annual membership meeting of the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco, set to begin at 2 p.m. on April 20. Admission is free; membership information will be available.

Daehnke is an associate professor of anthropology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His talk is titled “Chinook Resilience, Chinook Interventions: History, Heritage, and Collaborations on the Columbia River.”

Museum Director Madeline Matson will present a brief update on happenings at the museum.

For 20 years, Daehnke has studied the Lower Columbia River in consultation with the Chinook Indian Nation. His work has included research on the effects of volcanic eruptions, canoes in Chinookan culture, the revitalization of Chinookan art and the tribe’s efforts to be federally recognized.
