Letter: Resident wants answers on teacher pay-out

I am not a school insider. I care deeply about children and as a long-time resident, IHS graduate and a founding member of the original Boys & Girls Club, I feel strongly that a superintendent of schools should lead with integrity and in a professional manner. And that they should support and reward their teachers for their strengths and leadership. Together they should work as a team to build unity and cooperation in each other so children will thrive in a positive atmosphere.

A superintendent should lead by promoting transparency and provide an annual performance evaluation graded by their peers that will be shared with the tax paying public.

All these suggestions will help prevent a culture of fear and intimidation. Is this asking too much? Don’t our children deserve an atmosphere of well being where teachers are happy and grateful to go to work every day?

The money being spent for this $90,000 plus benefits cash payout plus potential upcoming legal fees to be paid by the school to defend this highly paid superintendent is outrageous! This will tragically take away from any future enrichment programs planned for our children.

And I must ask this question? Why have we not heard from the school board on this crisis matter? Who on the board voted in a quorum to sanction this payout? And surely the board will seek a swift, independent investigation into this embarrassing situation.

We deserve transparent answers now not to be delayed for months or years for the public to have confidence and pride in our schools again.
