Ilwaco baseball

The Ilwaco baseball team (6-1) rebounded from their first loss of the season by beating 1A Hoquiam (2-6) 2-1 in non-league action on Saturday, April 5, in Long Beach.

Ilwaco senior Grady Cox (22) drove in the winning run with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Fishermen finished with six hits, led by senior Derrick Cutting (1) with three hits. Ilwaco senior pitcher Jacob Rogers (3) threw five innings, allowing six hits with six strikeouts. Ilwaco senior Kaemon Sawa (9) pitched two innings, allowing one run with three hits and three strikeouts.

Ilwaco, currently 3-0 in league play, remains in second place behind first-place Forks (4-0).

Naselle baseball

The Naselle baseball team climbed to 5-1 on the season after mercy-rule victories over two schools in bigger classifications last week.

The Comets, who compete in the 1B classification, first handed the 2B Raymond/South Bend squad a five-inning 16-1 rout on Thursday, then clobbered 1A Castle Rock 12-2 two days later.

In the game against Raymond/South Bend, Naselle burst for a 10-run third inning while ringing up 15 total hits, led by Leith Chadwick with three hits and three RBIs. Dean Helvey and Jack Strange split pitching duties, allowing three hits with seven combined strikeouts.

In the game against Castle Rock, Naselle pitchers Trajen Ford and William Anderson each pitched three innings allowing only three hits with nine combined strikeouts in a 12-2 Comet win. Naselle had 10 hits, led by Anderson with three hits and one RBI.

Up next: Naselle will travel to take on Mossyrock on Wednesday, April 10.

Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball

The Pe Ell/Willapa Valley softball team were idle last week.

The Raymond/South Bend baseball team fell to 1-5 on the season after losing to Naselle 16-1 last week. The Ravens were held to three hits in the loss.

The Raymond/South Bend softball team was idle last week after their games against Adna and Naselle were rained out.

Raymond/South Bend boys soccer

The Raymond/South Bend boys soccer team improved to 5-2 in district play on the season after beating Hoquiam (3-6) 7-1 last Monday. The Ravens scored four first-half goals to take a 4-1 lead into the half, and they cruised to a 7-1 victory. Ravens junior Edgar Ramirez has scored a team-high nine goals this season to lead Raymond/South Bend, who are currently 5-2 in district play.

Ilwaco boys soccer

The Ilwaco boys soccer team sank to 0-8 on the season after losing to Montesano 14-0 on Monday, April 8. It’s been a trying season for a short-handed Fishermen squad, who have been outscored 69-2 through eight games.

Up next: Ilwaco will seek their first win when this season they travel to take on Tenino (1-7) on Wednesday, April 10.
