LONG BEACH — Ilwaco pitcher Megan Dille delivered a “gem” of a game Tuesday, April 2 in Long Beach, where the junior ace threw a one-hitter and drove in two runs to lead the Lady Fishermen softball team to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Hoquiam Grizzlies.

Ilwaco improved to 3-2 overall on the season following the non-league win, their third victory in four games. Hoquiam, who competes in the 1A Evergreen League, slipped to 1-3 with the loss.

“It was an absolute gem of a game,” said Ilwaco head coach A.J. Smith after Dille’s complete-game performance, which included seven strikeouts and three walks with only one hit over seven innings.

Lady Fishermen show ‘resilience’Smith was pleased with how the team responded following their 22-0 loss to Astoria last week.

“This was our bounce-back game from the Astoria loss; we could have gone either way, but the girls really honed in and locked it up. We played an excellent game defensively and offensively against a good 1A team. I’m proud of the girls, this shows their resilience and desire to get better each week.”
