LONG BEACH — The Long Beach Peninsula is one of the 10 “Best Places to Live” on the U.S. coast in 2024, according to a national magazine.
“When 2023’s interest rate spike had many potential homebuyers doubting whether beach town life was still in their future, gems like Long Beach … in Washington’s southwestern corner on the Olympic Coast emerged as alluring alternatives still within reach,” Coastal Living magazine says in its spring 2024 issue.
In addition to relatively affordable home prices — the lowest of the 10 featured coastal locales — the write-up about the peninsula touts Washington’s lack of an income tax, nearby Clatsop County’s lack of a sales tax, delicious local seafood and “access to 28 miles of unspoiled beach.”
“Poised between a blue-collar past and a green-tourism future, here’s a place to enjoy life in fresh air-fueled balance with an eye on the budget,” the magazine concludes.
Based on an estimate from the Redfin real estate website, the article figures a recent median local home sale price of $380,000. That compares to $2.25 million in Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, the only other West Coast community on the 2024 top-10 list.
In 2023, Coastal Living named the communities of Bandon, Oregon and Laguna Beach, California as “best places” on the Pacific Coast.
