Sports Roundup: Area softball teams shine opening week

In a 24-8 win against Wahkiakum, Naselle pounded out 11 hits, led by senior Gladys Wilson, pictured, with three hits and four RBIs.

Naselle softball

The Naselle softball team (1-2) opened a busy first week by whacking Wahkiakum 24-8 on Wednesday, March 15, in Naselle, then falling 10-0 to Raymond/South Bend last Friday, March 17 before being beat 16-0 by Montesano this Monday.

In the win against Wahkiakum, Naselle racked up 11 hits, led by senior Glady Wilson with three hits and four runs batted in.

Pe-Ell/Willapa Valley softball

The Pe-Ell/Willapa Valley softball team has been impressive this season following a season-opening tie with Elma. Since then, the Titans have reeled off three straight wins.

The Titans, competing in the 2B Pacific League, notched impressive wins over a couple of bigger 3A and 2A opponents, including pounding Peninsula 15-4 and nipping Enumclaw 2-1, to improve to 4-0-1 on the season.

Up next: The Titans begin 2B Pacific League play this week against Chief Leschi (March 19) followed by doubleheader league games on the road against Forks on March 26.

Raymond/South Bend softball

The Raymond/South Bend softball team (2-0) opened the season with a 10-8 victory over Napavine on Tuesday, March 12 in South Bend. The Ravens then defeated Naselle 10-0 last Friday in Naselle.

Up next: Raymond/South Bend hosted Ilwaco on Tuesday, March 19, then host Rainier on Thursday, March 21.

Ilwaco softball

The Ilwaco Lady Fishermen softball team (0-0) will open the season traveling to take on Raymond/South Bend on Tuesday, March 19.
