Naselle freshman Aubrey Katyryniuk is an athlete of the week.

Two freshmen from Naselle and Ilwaco were named WIAA athletes of the week in the same week.

They shared the honor with 10 other Washington student-athletes.

Naselle’s Aubrey Katyryniuk’s recognition was for a breakout week on the playoff trail.

She was a pivotal player in all three of Naselle’s games last week. She ended the week with 84 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 15 steals and 5 blocked shots. Head coach Marie Green said Katyryniuk has been having a stellar season as a freshman power forward for the team.

At the same time, Ilwaco’s freshman Mikaila Warfield was earning state attention, too.

In the Fishermen’s first-round district game, Warfield led Ilwaco in scoring with 29 points, nine rebounds and eight steals in helping them to a 58-41 win over Onalaska. The week before, Warfield put up 40 points and 25 rebounds against league rival Chief Leschi.
