Letter: ‘A loser trying to cover his butt’

During his rally speech in New Hampshire on Dec. 16 our former president once again started whining about another “rigged election,” something he has a long history of doing, especially when he believes things might not go his way, even though the poll numbers are in his favor. This is one more example of a loser trying to cover his butt just in case he loses again.

Perhaps Trump’s loyal followers don’t remember this Tweet when former President Obama was re-elected or maybe they prefer not to:

“This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!” — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) Nov. 7, 2012

Does this one sound familiar? “We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!” — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) Nov. 7, 2012

In 2016 when Ted Cruz swept the state’s delegates in Colorado, Trump tweeted: “I will be interviewed on @foxandfriends at 9:00 A.M. I will be talking about the rigged and boss controlled Republican primaries!” — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 16, 2016

In April 2020, Trump started belly-aching about mail-in ballots, then in July 2020 when he was polling behind Joe Biden, Chris Wallace of Fox News asked him this question: “Can you give a direct answer: Will you accept the election?” Trump replied: “I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no.”

Whether the former president manages to evade jail time or house arrest remains questionable, but there’s little doubt in my mind that Republican loyalists are going to nominate him for the 2024 presidential run. So much for the party that has blabbered on about the “Rule of Law.” The simple fact is they don’t care one whit about the law just so long as they are able to remain in power.

Unfortunately, at least so far, you and I are presented with two possible presidential candidates both of whom should be enjoying their retirement years.
