Letter: Surfside suing resident over trees

Months ago I wrote about “Mrs. C,” who is a physically challenged senior widow living on a fixed income in Surfside. Just to set the stage, her monthly food budget is less than some of us spend on a single night out at a good restaurant.

The management at Surfside demanded she top her trees and imposed crippling fines. She not only topped her trees, she paid to have her beloved trees completely removed, in the hope that this would appease the home owners association trying to take her home. Then she begged the management, on bended knee, to please not take her home.

In response, in the months before Christmas, Surfside HOA hired a million-dollar legal firm out of Seattle and filed a motion in Superior Court to foreclose on her home. Surfside doesn’t need the money. We don’t need the homeless population increased by one.
