From the editor’s desk: Photos galore

One of the many advantages of having an active digital subscription to the Chinook Observer is access to a richer and deeper presentation of photos than is possible in print.

Probably needless to say, this is partly because there is limited space in our print edition. Even though the Observer runs much more content of all kinds than most community publications, our talented team produces many more photos than we ever have room for. This is often true of our high school sports coverage, for example.

And sometimes, even if a photo runs in print, it may look much better on a digital screen. This was the case last week when our Luke Whittaker turned in a stunning image of the November “Beaver Moon” rising above the Port of Ilwaco. I might have run it large on page 1, but have to make those decisions earlier in the day on Tuesdays and didn’t see the moon photo in time. As it was, it ran on A12.

But after posting it online, it has so far generated 832 reactions, 38 comments and 45 shares at www.facebook.com/ChinookObserver. You can view it at www.chinookobserver.com/news/local/beaver-moon-shines-above-coast/article_02649f6e-8e12-11ee-a0d0-5b1774bd956a.html.

We live in county that offers spectacular scenery around every bend in the road. The Observer has always seen celebrating this beauty as part of our core mission. Thank you for coming along with us.
