Letter: Food Bank Challenge off to a slow start

Published 11:58 am Monday, November 27, 2023

To keep everyone informed how donations are coming I’ve gotten some status reports and compared to information I have from previous years the first week did not go as well as hoped.

Remember that last year the Loren H. Corder Foundation matched up to nearly $50,000 of the donations coming in to the three food banks combined. How much the foundation will match this year is still up in the air depending on the investment income in mid-December, but it will be significant.

The key is having enough donations to make sure every dollar in the “pot” is there for the match. This year we have some great gifts from generous businesses, such as Astoria Ford, Lum’s Auto, Busted Knuckle Garage, Shake N Bake Sportfishing, and Coho Charters. Hopefully, other local businesses will pitch in with added thank you gifts, if they do, I’ll be sure to include them in future updates.

But for now, I can only say I’m very grateful for their support. This is the fifth year of the Food Bank Challenge and every year the donations have gotten larger, lets make it a banner year in 2023, its all about helping those in need.
