Sports Roundup: Ilwaco, Naselle VB look to advance in district play

Ilwaco football
The Ilwaco football team wrapped up their season with their second-straight shutout by beating Toutle Lake 34-0 last Thursday.
The Fishermen (5-4) finished third in the division, behind Wahkiakum and Rainier. The season was a drastic improvement from last season, where the Fishermen finished 1-9, the first season under head coach Ron Rood. The five wins this season are the most for Ilwaco since 2016, when they finished 7-4.
Eight Ilwaco seniors played their final game, including QB/DB Derek Cutting (2), B/DB Boston Caron (5), QB/DB Ethan Hopkins (7), CB/WR Xavier Smith (14), B/DB Kaemon Sawa (15), B/LB Cannon Johnson (44), OL/DL Andrew Gaerlan (78) and E/LB Sam Needham (83).
Ilwaco volleyball
The Ilwaco girls volleyball team lost in the opening round of the 2B District Playoffs in straight sets to No. 4-seed Napavine last Saturday (Oct. 28) in Raymond. The No. 5-seed Lady Fishermen will next face Toledo in a loser-out match at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Onalaska High School.
Naselle volleyball
The Naselle girls volleyball team won their opening match in the 1B District Playoffs by sweeping Oakville on Monday (Oct. 30) in Naselle in straight sets. The Comets will next face Firm Foundation in a loser-out match at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Naselle High School.
