1B football: Naselle outguns Chief Leschi 80-58 in shootout

NASELLE — Naselle junior dual-threat quarterback Jacob Lindstrom orchestrated the option to perfection, piling up more than 400 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Comets (9-1) to a 80-58 late-night shootout victory over Chief Leschi (7-2) last Friday in Naselle.
The non-league win secured Naselle’s spot in the upcoming state play-in game, where the No. 2-seed Comets (9-1) will host No. 5-seed Quilcene Rangers (3-6) at 6:00 P.M. Friday, Nov. 3 in Naselle, with the winner advancing to the WIAA 1B State Playoffs.
In a marathon first quarter that included eight touchdowns, Naselle was able to wrestle control with extra possessions, starting after a successful onside kick that they cashed in for Lindstrom 76-yard touchdown, taking a 30-28 leader after the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Comet defense managed to keep the Warriors scoreless as Naselle added three more touchdowns by Lindstrom and Strange, taking a 52-28 lead into the half, where they were able to hang on to preserve the victory, 80-58.
Game notes: Naselle operated out of the option offensively much of the first half, which quarterback Jacob Lindstrom ran to perfection while distributing the ball to backs Jack Strange and Caiden Burke. Strange finished with 29 carries for 179 yards and four touchdowns, while Burke added 42 yards on six totes. Strange also had a team-high eight tackles.
