2B girls volleyball: Ravens swoop Lady Fishermen, now 8-0 in league play

ILWACO — The Raymond/South Bend girls volleyball team continued their unbeaten trek though the 2B Pacific League by sweeping Ilwaco last week.

The Ravens (12-7, 8-0 league play) beat a young but competitive Ilwaco squad (1-10, 1-5) in straight sets (25-9, 25-16 and 25-7) last Tuesday in Ilwaco. With the win, the Ravens remain atop the 2B Pacific League (8-0), while the Lady Fishermen (1-5) slip to sixth place in the eight-team division.

Baugher leads Ravens

In the first set, Raven junior Berklee Morely (#3) served three straight points, boosting RSB ahead 6-2. Midway through the set, with RSB leading 10-6, Raven sophomore Ava Baugher (#5) began to take over. The 5’9 sophomore, the tallest member on the RSB team, started by serving back-to-back aces with precision. The Ravens continued to rally around Baugher’s serving, reeling off nine straight points and racing to a 19-6 lead, and ultimately, a 25-9 first set victory.

In the second set, the Ravens again jumped to an early lead, 3-1. This time however, Ilwaco answered behind freshmen Jayden Patana (#14), tying the game 3-3. Ravens. Baugher responded with three aces, giving RSB an 11-7 lead that they would never relinquish, ending in a 25-16 second set victory.

In the third set, stellar play from RSB sophomore Kassie Koski (#15) and sophomore Ava Pine (#14) helped the Ravens race to an 8-0 lead before the Lady Fishermen scored their first point, ending a 25-7 three-set sweep for RSB.

Up next: Ilwaco (1-10) will next travel to face Ocosta (9-4) Thursday, Oct. 19. Raymond/South Bend (12-7) will next host North Beach (1-5) Thursday, Oct. 19 at home.
