Sports Roundup: Naselle FB mashes Muckleshoot, Mossyrock showdown awaits

Naselle footballThe Naselle football team continued their unbeaten streak by burying Muckleshoot Tribal 64-14 last Friday, improving to 7-0 on the season.
The Comets overmatched the Kings (0-6) from the opening kickoff, leading to 36-0 first-quarter lead.
Naselle will next travel for showdown with rival Mossyrock (5-1) on Friday, Oct. 13 in Mossyrock. It will be the toughest test for the Comets this season, who have been a buzzsaw through their first six opponents. The Comets and Vikings both enter 4-0, the lone remaining unbeaten teams in the 1B Southwest standings.The Vikings lone non-league loss was to 2B Pe-Ell/Willapa Valley (26-8) in the first week of the season. Since then, both teams have been on a collision course, with the Comets outscoring their first seven opponents 400 to 136. Mossyrock meanwhile has relied more on the defense with equally impressive results, outscoring their opponents 258 to 76, including shutouts over Muckleshoot Tribal (52-0) and Sound Christian (64-0).
Naselle has won two of three meetings (46-0 Naselle, 2020, 54-12, 2021) since Mossy retuned to 8-man football in 2020. Last season, the Vikings knocked off the Comets 64-42 in Naselle.

Pe Ell/Willapa Valley footballThe Pe Ell/Willapa Valley football team rallied from a 27-0 first-half deficit before falling to Toledo (5-1) 27-24 last Friday. After falling behind 27-0 in the second quarter, the Titans shutout the Riverhawks in the second half, including scoring 16 4th-quarter points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Toledo.

Raymond/South Bend footballThe Ravens (4-1) were on a bye last week after their (Oct. 6) game against Neah Bay (3-2) was cancelled.

Ilwaco volleyballAfter defeating Chief Leschi Sept. 28 in Puyallup to earn their first win, the Ilwaco volley team fell to Taholah (3-5), dropping the Lady Fishermen to 1-8 on the season.
The Lady Fishermen (1-8), lost three sets to one against the Chitwins. Despite the loss, Ilwaco remains in fifth place in the 2B Pacific League standings, all trailing Raymond, who remains unbeaten in league play (6-0).

Willapa Valley volleyballThe Willapa Valley girls volleyball team (6-3, 4-1 1B Columbia Valley League) had their five-game winning streak snapped by Naselle (4-3, 3-2) after losing in four sets Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Up next: Willapa Valley (6-3) will travel to face Firm Foundation Christian (0-8) Thursday, Oct. 12 in Battle Ground.
Raymond volleyballThe Raymond volleyball team (10-7-2) participated in a tournament last week, where they tied Centralia (6-2) and Toutle Lake (4-4) before beating Hudson’s Bay (2-7) and falling to R.A. Long (7-4).
Up next: The Seagulls (10-7-2) remain unbeaten in 2B Pacific League play (6-0) and will return to league action Thursday, Oct. 12 against Chief Leschi (0-7).
South Bend SoccerThe South Bend girls soccer team (4-4-1) fell to Onalaska (6-5) last Wednesday in South Bend. South Bend remains in 6th place in the 11-team 2B Central standings.
