Ilwaco High School’s Homecoming celebrations Friday were a true team effort, with the football players on the field and the cheerleaders and marching band adding significant pep to the occasion.

But there was another “team” working behind the scenes to make those colorful fireworks happen — and all without any cost to the Ocean Beach School District.
The display was coordinated by Johanna Gustafson, the cheerleading coach and parent of cheer squad captain Milly Gustafson, a senior at IHS.
“A huge thank-you goes out to the tremendous support of our community at the Friday Homecoming football game,” Johanna Gustafson said. “We had a beautiful fireworks display due to their support.”

She organized the display with help from many other community members.
“Jack and Andrea Marsh, alumni and long-time IHS supporters, donated all of the fireworks and have generously done so for three years,” she added. “Jeff Archer, our Ilwaco fire chief, approved the display and local pyrotech specialist Rick Gray donated his time and expertise in lighting them.”
