Animal Shelter Report: Let’s make Duane’s journey to recovery a reality!

Duane, a happy boy in care at the South Pacific County Humane Society Animal Shelter, needs help paying for surgery.

Every shelter has a wealth of canine personalities. There’s your playful pup. These dogs are full of energy and love to have a game with you. They’re often seen with a toy in their mouth! Then there’s the calm and laid-back hound. Such pups have a relaxed and easygoing nature, enjoying lounging around as much as any high intensity walk. Eager to please residents are highly trainable and thrive on making their owners happy. And of course, there’s the pup who wants to be your guardian and protector. Some breeds have a protective instinct and are naturally watchful over their family.

None of these descriptions quite sum up our Duane. Adorable, quirky, handsome, goofy Duane is a sweet-natured pit-mix. Loved by the staff and volunteers alike, Duane’s needs are simple: a couch to lie on, a carpet to stretch out on, even your bed to jump on! In return Duane promises to provide love, loyalty, humor and frequent kisses! But before Duane can enjoy a home of his own, he needs to have urgent surgery. Our boy has been hobbling around recently, and a visit to vet diagnosed an ACL tear in his knee. This torn ligament is causing him a lot of discomfort and pain, surgery is the next step to help him bounce back to health.

So, we are reaching out to our supportive community with a heartfelt request. Though Duane is facing a challenging road to recovery, his condition is treatable with surgery, and we believe that with your support, we can give him a chance at a happy, pain-free life. We’ve set up a fundraiser to cover the costs of Duane’s surgery. Every dollar counts, and your generous donation can make a real difference in this boy’s life. Let’s come together as a community and show Duane that he’s not alone in this journey.

If you are able and willing, please donate via our website: beachpets.com/long-beach-wa-shelter/donate. Or if it’s easier you can drop your donation in at the shelter: 330 Second Street NE, Long Beach open hours Tuesday thru Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We appreciate all and any donations towards this boys’ care! As an added incentive, volunteer dog walker and artist Kate Cooper has painted a portrait of Duane. All donors will be automatically entered into a draw to win this watercolor painting, which BOLD gallery have kindly framed. Who wouldn’t want this lovely face adorning their wall!

Duane’s wagging tail and hopeful eyes remind us of the power of compassion and community. Together, we can give him the chance to run and play pain-free once more. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Let’s make Duane’s journey to recovery a reality!
