Dobby Wiegardt, Sydney Stevens and Tucker Wachsmuth share a chuckle as they consider calling their presentation at next week’s History Forum “One by Land and Two by Sea.” Their talk at the Oysterville School begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

OYSTERVILLE — Three well-known Peninsula residents — Sydney Stevens, Tucker Wachsmuth and Dobby Wiegardt — will be the featured speakers next Wednesday at the Oysterville Schoolhouse. Their subject: the journeys of their ancestors by land and by sea, their ultimate arrival in Pacific County in the early 1850s and ‘60s, and some of the reasons that their families have continued to live here through many generations.

This will be the second of the new History Forum series to be presented the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a,m, to 12 noon. The events are free and open to the public. Organizers are hopeful that “audience” members will add their own knowledge and information to each week’s topic so that the communal body of historic awareness will continue to expand.

Dayle Olson, who will serve as moderator of the discussion next week says, “Our intent is that these Forums will become a learning opportunity for all of us — a chance to pool our family stories, share what we have read, and engage one another in discussing how this area has developed its unique flavors and attitudes.”

The forum will begin with each panelist speaking for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, after a question-and-answer period, “the floor is wide open for continued discussion,” says Dayle. “We look forward to lively exchanges, recommendations for further reading on topics of interest, and on the possibility that people with similar interests will follow up on their own.”
