Animal Shelter Report: Is third time’s the charm true for POW River?

- Blessing
This is the third time we have featured this sweet year-and-half-old kitty. So, what is wrong with her? Bottom line is that she is afraid of strangers! When any of our usual staff or Cat Cuddlers she knows approaches her in the Playroom, she loves to get pets and attention. But, unfortunately, she is slow to warm up to people she doesn’t know, and sadly, potential adopters are people she doesn’t know!
Trending
River has been at the shelter since she was a wee kitten. She came with her mama and littermates. Early on, River got a “kitty cold,” which has long since cleared up. Over time, the other kitties in the family found homes, but River has lingered. It is very sad to see her spending her young life in the shelter. Because she has been in the free range Playroom with other cats and kittens, she enjoys feline companionship, and can often be seen sleeping and cuddling with the other friendly felines. She would be a good companion for another kitty-friendly cat. River absolutely loves to play, and is in heaven when our Cat Cuddlers bring a laser light for her to play with. It is so much fun for her — check out her video on her biography on beachpets.com!
River has been sponsored by her fan club at the shelter, so will be able to be adopted at no fee. The usual screening will apply. If you have a patient heart, please give River a chance. We know that she will absolutely blossom if just given a home of her own! To submit an application for River or any of the other shelter pets, visit our website beachpets.com and go to the “Adopt” section. We are going to tell River that her Special Person is out there and may be coming for her any day now!
Save the date: Blessing of the Animals
Each fall, we have The Blessing of the Animals, a very popular community event. The event is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals, and will be held this year on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m., rain or shine.
The Rev. Richard Loop, Vicar of St.Peter Episcopal Church, will again be blessing community pets as well as the shelter animals. All socialized animals are welcome. Dogs on leashes and cats in carriers, please. The event will take place in the shelter parking lot, 330 2nd Street NE, Long Beach.
We are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only for adoptions and surrenders. Stray drop-off, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food program are available during open hours.
View our available cats and dogs and submit an online application at our website beachpets.com. An approved adoption application is required before scheduling a meet and greet with your selected animal.
