Ilwaco senior quarterback Ethan Hopkins (7) prepares to unleash a pass against Raymond/South Bend.

RAYMOND — Raven senior quarterback Austin Snodgrass dropped back and rolled away from pressure before uncorking his first touchdown pass to junior tight end Isaac Schlueter.

It would be one of three first-half touchdowns by the senior Raymond/South Bend signal caller in a dazzling performance, where the Ravens (2-1) used big plays through the air to bounce the Ilwaco Fishermen (2-1) from the unbeaten ranks with a decisive 41-14 victory.

Ravens impress in Pacific County showdown

Ilwaco entered the game without allowing a touchdown in their first two games — blowout wins over North Beach (47-0) and Toutle Lake (49-0) — before facing a deep and talented Ravens team, whose loss came in the waning seconds to an undefeated Toledo team.

Both teams turned the ball over on their opening drives, including a turnover-on-downs by the Ravens near midfield. Ilwaco started their opening drive by converting a short fourth down before an interception by the Ravens’ Schlueter. On the ensuing drive, Schlueter caught a pass from senior quarterback Austin Snodgrass and outraced the Fishermen secondary for the first score of the game late in the first quarter.

Following an Ilwaco punt early in the second quarter, Raymond-South Bend added their second score of the game on a touchdown by senior running back Robbie Stigall.

Both teams exchanged possessions before Ferrill Johnson hauled in a touchdown from Snodgrass, a 60-yard bomb that extended the Raven lead to three scores midway through the second quarter.

A sputtering Ilwaco offense would answer on their next possession, however, starting with a couple of inspired runs from senior backs Boston Caron and Cannon Johnson. Caron then caught a hook-and-ladder, allowing the Fishermen to cross into Ravens territory for the first time. A 25-yard reception by junior tight end Robert Sanders was followed by a short carry across the goal line by Caron, cutting the Raven lead to 20-6 just before halftime.

The Ravens responded with Snodgrass throwing his third touchdown — his second to Johnson — on the final play of the first half, extending RSB’s lead to 26-6 and extinguishing any momentum for a Fishermen comeback.

Up next: Ilwaco will host Forks (3-0) at home 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. Raymond/South Bend will travel to take on Adna (1-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22.
