Letter: Something fishy at the Port of Nachotta

There’s an odor emanating from the Nahcotta port and it’s not the oysters or the fish. Rather it smells of malfeasance and corruption.

Today’s meeting was postponed (at the last minute) for the excuse that one of the commissioners was unable to attend, and directly afterward the board chair and port manager retired to a closed door meeting in the port office. Although the port manager claims it only takes two commissioners to vote on actions taken, it’s apparent the two commissioners to his liking were not in attendance. Which begs the question, who is really in charge, the duly elected commissioners or the port manager? Maybe it’s time for the commission to take a stand and release the port manager and for the ineffective commission chair to resign.
Anyone attending these so called “public meetings” would soon find public input and attendance is not desirable, particularly to the board chair and port manager. The meetings of late are orchestrated to discourage attendance, ignore those who have taken time to attend, to disallow the audience the ability to hear what is being said and to put on a show for the authorities. Oral comments are not allowed on agenda items and written comments are relegated to a box, most likely to be completely ignored. One can only suppose these meetings are designed to obfuscate and to cover the backsides of those responsible for poor decisions and mismanagement.
We were told at a previous meeting not to believe what we read in the paper. It’s obvious that’s the only way we can find out what is really happening.
