Obituary: Charles (Chuck) Hubert Robinson

ILWACO — Charles (Chuck) Hubert Robinson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 3, 2023 in Vancouver, Washington at the age of 93.

Chuck was born in Raymond, Washington to Clarence Andrew Robinson and Dora Daisy Clark. He spent most of his early years living in Southern California before moving back to the Northwest to attend Clark College in Vancouver. He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1953, where he was active duty in the Korean War as a Boatswain Mate 2nd class.

After his service in the Navy, he had several jobs including owning a gas station in Raymond with his brother Scott, working with his father at C.A. Robinson Cold Storage and working at Fort Vancouver Plywood. In 1969 he moved to Ilwaco, Washington where he spent the majority of his life working as a fisherman. He fished up and down the West coast from Alaska to Mexico and far into the Pacific and Western rivers, fishing for salmon, crab, tuna, bottom fish and the occasional smelt. He owned many commercial boats including the Smitty, Isabell, My Sweety, Venture, Roman Holiday and the Peggy Lou.

He was an avid pool player in his younger days and won several tournaments in the Vancouver area. He also loved to play cribbage with anyone and everyone who was willing, though he didn’t take kindly to losing, as you know if you ever played the game with him. He loved to sit and talk with family and friends and tend his yard and roses and was fortunate to live independently and drive until he was 92.

His brother Scott Robinson and sisters Camilla Bodley and Lois Gardner preceded him in death. Surviving siblings include Jimmy Nikell and wife Cheryl and their family Shari San Paolo, Aaron Nikell, And Angie Nikell (Christopher). Charles’s Sister Patricia Robinson. Cousin Myrna Robinson. Brenda and Colton Stark and their son Travis and his wife Deidre and their children Trinity and Bailey and Brody. Doug Cramer. Scott Cramer. Nephew Sam Robinson and wife Mildred and their children Casandra and Rebecca. Niece (Sam Robinsons sister) Kathy Robinson and her children Sammy and Ben. Niece Lisa Bodley-Diaz and her husband Ingo. Cousin Louie Strong and daughter Maria Grimes and her husband Steve and nephews Jason and Josh Cook. Cousin Phil and Lisa Olsen and their two children-daughter Meg Olsen and her children Ole Olsen, Baker Downard and Ruby Olsen and Levanda Olsen and Phil and Lisa’s son Norman Olsen and Mallory and Norman’s children Charlotte and Georgia Olsen.

Sam Robinson will give a blessing and the ashes will be spread along with one of his previous wives Peggy Sasticum Robinson at 9 a.m. on Aug. 26 at the Bay Center slough near the Bay Center tavern and restaurant called the Dock of the Bay.
