Shelter life can present challenges for dogs the longer they live in this environment. It becomes harder for them to maintain their resilience, which can lead to shelter fatigue. Over time, behavior can deteriorate, making the dogs less adoptable.

This week we are highlighting three of our sweet shelter dogs that have been at the shelter for over a year — Big Bug, Duane and Oreo. Shelter staff and volunteers have worked hard to provide these boys the best environment possible, but what they really need is a home.
Big Bug
Big Bug is an approximately 4-year-old male bulldog/American boxer mix.
This handsome, affectionate blockhead loves to go on walks and play in the yard with his ball. Big Bug loves people almost as much as he loves car rides.
Duane
Duane is an approximately 5-year-old male Staffordshire terrier mix with a goofy smile. He is friendly and loves to hang out on a couch with a chew toy. He also enjoys short walks that allow him to sniff his way through the neighborhood. Duane does not like cats or other small creatures.
Oreo
Oreo is about 3 years old and is a male border collie/Akita mix. He is a loving and affectionate dog that just wants to be with his human. Oreo loves playing in the water, riding in the car, and being brushed. He would do well in a household without cats or small children.
For more information on these awesome dogs, please go to the shelter website: beachpets.com.
If you are interested in providing a forever home for one of these lovable pups (or any of the shelter dogs), please go to the website and complete an adoption application. If you do not want to adopt, but want to help these pups, please consider fostering one of them. The shelter provides the foster with food, medical care, other supplies as needed (for example a blanket, bed, leash) and ongoing support.
If you’d like to help, but adoption/fostering is not an option, please consider volunteering your time to walk or just hang out with these long-stay pups. All applications can be found on beachpets.com.
We are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only for adoptions and surrenders. Stray drop-off, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food program are available during open hours.
View our available cats and dogs and submit an online application at our website beachpets.com. An approved adoption application is required before scheduling a meet and greet with your selected animal.
