The Editor’s comments in the Wednesday, Aug. 2 issue of the Chinook Observer, referencing the sheriff’s posts, are absurd. Why, in today’s world of senseless shootings and killing of innocent people, both young and old, would you publicly admit that it is the paper’s policy to “make people angry”?

Do you not read your own print? Are you not aware of senseless killings and violence nationwide? Why would you try to anger the public? I thought the purpose of any news media was to report the facts, “inform” the public of happenings, and, from the information gathered, let the public decide for themselves if they feel more action should be taken.
The Chinook Observer’s policy of trying to make its readers angry sets a dangerous precedent since your opinion is being presented to sway others. Whatever happened to allowing the public to form its own opinion?
I challenge the Chinook Observer to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This is what we actually wrote: We stand by what we told Sheriff Garcia early on: A newsman who doesn’t irritate those in power is like a cop who never makes arrests. It is his job to make people angry when the situation calls for it.
