Breeze
Two-and-a-half-year-old pittie mix Breeze is one of those dogs who shows poorly in his kennel, but is actually a very nice dog and is a staff and volunteer favorite. He came to us as a stray, so we don’t know anything about his past history, but we do know what a great dog he is since he came to us. Breeze loves to go for walks, and has good leash manners. He is very eager to please, and affectionate. Breeze loves to play ball, is a good passenger in the car, and seems to do well with other dogs. We don’t know how he is with cats. Interestingly enough, he seems to do well with horses! Maybe he was a farm or ranch dog in his past life?
Breeze loves his regular dog walkers, and likes to lean on them on his walks. He adores rolling in high grass, and will “roll forever if you let him.” He will need a fully fenced yard so he can safely get the “zoomies.”
As Pet of the Week, his adoption fee has been halved to just $62.50 and he is ready to go!
Pumpkin
Pretty six-year-old tortoiseshell Pumpkin is a favorite of our Cat Cuddler team. They describe her as a “friendly and affectionate sweetheart” who loves to be petted. She has a very cute “chirping” meow. Recently, I was working on the flower pots in the front of the shelter and Pumpkin was perched on the windowsill in the Jungle Room, which faces the front of the shelter. Pumpkin decided I was wasting my time with the flowers, and should instead come in and pay attention to her. So, she proceeded to purr and chirp through the window screen until I had to suspend gardening activities and go and pet her!
Pumpkin would be a wonderful companion in a quiet home, and would provide a lot of love and affection for “her person”. As Pet of the week, her adoption fee has been reduced to just $25. If you are interested in either of these nice pets, visit our website beachpets.com and follow the instructions under the “Adopt” section to submit an application electronically.
Shelter Wish List
We are running very low on dry cat and dog food, both for the shelter pets and for the Community Pet Food Bank. Costco has good deals on both cat and dog food. For the food bank, we can accept opened bags of food as long as it is in the original bag. Your dog or cat getting picky? Donate it to us and be assured the pets of low income local residents will put it to good use! Food can be dropped off at the shelter, 330 2nd St NE in downtown Long Beach from Tuesday- Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thank you and the pets thank you!
We are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only for adoptions and surrenders. Stray drop-off, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food program are available during open hours.
View our available cats and dogs and submit an online application at our website beachpets.com. An approved adoption application is required before scheduling a meet and greet with your selected animal.
