Pursuing difficult stories and following up on them are positive traits of any meaningful news operation, and Chinook Observer news people do a great job of it.

In the forthcoming edition, reporter Brandon Cline will have the work product of weeks of gathering information about the controversial Beacon RV Park at the Port of Ilwaco. It is a horrible rural slum, the site of considerable crime, and has been nearly abandoned by its purchasers and the port.

Freelancer Jeff Clemens’ dogged efforts and careful cultivation of sources managed to obtain a confidential report about a woman who died of neglect in the Pacific County Jail. Our online story from last week leads our top-10 list. It will be in print this week. Watching out for the powerless is among the most important things we can do.

The 2023 edition of Discovery Coast will be inserted in the Observer this week, and has been widely distributed at drop locations.
