To the Pacific County Board of Commissioners:

You need to look at this not as a fireworks ban, but as an ordinance that is looking after the health, safety, and welfare for the entire Peninsula and all its residents, businesses and nature.
Natural fire alone is a very real and imminent danger for the Peninsula, and this will only increase in the coming years. However, fire danger caused by fireworks is preventable.
Supporting the rights of those who are only seeking fun in the name of freedom over supporting the rights of residents to have the freedom to live their lives without fear and trauma is a misguided priority. And as of last week, it seems to be the decision you are making.

The duty of governance is to sometimes save people from themselves and others. Preventing danger, disaster, and harm and enacting laws has always been the business of commissioners, mayors and council members.
You have continuously over the years heard from citizens about this danger. And it only grows in magnitude each year.
Allowing fireworks to continue overwhelms our law enforcement and fire responders. This type of danger and unrest is preventable. And a law preventing such activities that do harm and put the peninsula at risk also will unburden law enforcement, fire departments and their resources from additional stress. Therefore, they will have time and resources to better care for citizens’ day-to-day needs.
Putting this on the ballot again in November is unwarranted, as you have already had a vote.
Another election will only cost more time, money and energy for the county, state, and residents because of your reluctance to do the right thing and govern. We don’t have time — a disaster is imminent and doesn’t go by our time schedules.
People have told you they want their lives back. You are holding South County/Peninsula residents hostage.
A law preventing fireworks protects everyone, whether they know it or not.
Do your job and enact a fireworks-ban ordinance for 2024.
