Roscoe

Last week we wrote about Herman, our kitty Pet of the Week, and sadly, no one came to take him home. Herman is a very chill, sweet kitty who would be a great addition to any family, and he truly deserves a home. If you are interested in this sweet boy, visit our website beachpets.com to read more about him and to submit an application electronically. Thank you!

Roscoe

Roscoe is a very cute 2-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix who knows he is cute and uses it to his fullest advantage to get his way with the people around him! He’s not bad- he just likes to jump up when he gets excited! Roscoe will make a wonderful canine companion for someone who knows that he uses his cuteness to his advantage, but is dog savvy and also makes him mind. Jack Russell terriers are known for their higher energy levels and intelligence, and Roscoe is true to form. He is very active all day long, and would love to have an owner who likes to run or hike or a family with energetic children. He is not a couch potato, but after an active day he will do some lap sitting and likes to cuddle.

He is super friendly and adores everyone. Like most terriers, he is selective with other dogs, but may be a good companion for another respectful energetic dog. A meet and greet would be necessary if there is another dog already in the home. He would not be a good dog to take to a dog park. He would not do well with cats. Other than jumping when he is excited (a trait that can be effectively curtailed with appropriate training — our dog walkers are working with him on this) Roscoe is a great pup and will be a wonderful family dog. As Pet of the Week, his adoption fee has been halved to just $87.50, which is a great price for a desirable small-breed dog.

River

This sweet white and black kitty has an unfortunate distinction — she has literally grown up in the Shelter! She is now just a little over a year old, but came to us as a tiny kitten. She was sweet and playful, but a series of health issues kept delaying her adoption. Kittens, like most baby creatures, have underdeveloped immune systems. They get some immunity from their moms shortly after birth, but it is often not enough to keep them from coming down with common kitten illnesses such as respiratory diseases and eye infections until their immune systems start kicking in at about 16 weeks of age. Poor River just couldn’t catch a break and seemed to get every “kitty crud” that made its way around the shelter.

Now that River is a young adult cat, she is very healthy and is more than ready to get out of the shelter and find a home. She is a quiet, gentle, affectionate girl who enjoys playing with toys. She enjoys playing with people and other cats, even the crazy kittens that are currently bouncing around the free-range “Playroom.” If you are thinking about bringing a new kitty home, please consider River. She would be a wonderful companion for another cat-friendly kitty already in the home. A year spent in the shelter is a year too long…

The kittens are here!

When we get small kittens or mama cats with kittens into the shelter, they go to be cared for in one of our foster homes. There they are in a clean, quiet environment and receive the care and socialization they need. They come from foster care into the shelter at about 8-plus weeks old. For those of you anxious to adopt a kitten, we are happy to tell you that they are arriving! We have some darling kittens, including some unique and very pretty Siamese-mix babies.

If you are interested in adopting a kitten, visit our website beachpets.com. There under the “Adopt” section you will find pictures and descriptions of the kittens currently available. Kitten information will be put up on the website as the little ones are fully vetted and ready to go!

We are open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday by appointment only for adoptions and surrenders. Stray drop-off, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food program are available during open hours.

View our available cats and dogs and submit an online application at our website beachpets.com. An approved adoption application is required before scheduling a meet and greet with your selected animal.
