Letter: Concentrate on schools, policing, medical services

Regarding Valerie Perkins’ announcement she is running for Ilwaco City council, I have a few comments:

In your recent letter to the editor, you voiced your support for areas of potential improvement as central to your platform.

One of the areas you cited was “planning for adequate affordable housing.” In my opinion, our tax dollars would be better utilized supporting our schools, law enforcement, and medical services.

Any funding for affordable housing should not be considered.

Affordable housing will not result in lower crime, but it will adversely affect the quality of life on the Peninsula. As a decades-long resident of Long Beach, I appreciate the great things about our peninsula and all my neighbors. I have no desire to see the peninsula morph into a mini Portland or Seattle.
