Mossyrock dominates
Mossyrock starting pitcher sophomore Erin Cournyer kept the Comet batters off balance all game, logging seven strikeouts over five innings while allowing only two runs. Meanwhile, the Vikings pounded Naselle starting pitcher Lauren Katyryniuk and Mallory Helvey for 25 runs over five innings, including home runs by Mossyrock sophomore Chesney Schultz and senior Hailey Brooks.
Among the bright spots for the Comets was the play of senior catcher Haley Eastham and junior Gladys Wilson. Eastham was stellar behind the plate, helping the Comets hang around early on. Wilson provided one of the few offensive highlights for Comets, when the Naselle junior ripped a first-inning RBI triple and cut into the Mossyrock lead (6-1), one of the rare extra-base hits allowed by Cournyer.
The Comets will lose three seniors to graduation, including Eastham, pitcher/shortstop Brynn Tarabochia and pitcher/third basemen Lauren Katyryniuk.
