We have added articles from Sports Illustrated to our website. Access is free with a digital subscription. Click on the “Sports” tab on our website to find it.
Newspapers and news sites in general do not provide such additional content because it is not part of their core mission, which is to provide readers with unique local news, features and commentary. National news and sports are left to other websites for readers to seek out.
Papers print less and less national news in general since it is readily available on websites and 24/7 streaming channels. And many papers have stopped printing sports scoreboards, opting to run stories in that space.
Sports Illustrated is different. Started in 1954, SI is the sport fan’s go-to magazine for in-depth reporting about athletes and teams. It has lots of behind-the-scenes stories about all sorts of sporting events, strategies and even tips for amateurs who want to play golf, or tennis or whatever your favorite sport is. Much of its content cannot be found elsewhere. And, it is updated regularly. It has world-class, award-winning sports writers. The magazine boasts more than one million subscribers.
SI is a subsidiary of The Arena Group, which also publishes Parade Magazine. What used to be a staple of the Sunday newspaper, Parade can now only be found in an online format. The Chinook Observer publishes Parade every Wednesday in our e-edition. It’s a vast improvement over the print product as it has much more content and tons of links to related stories. You can also check out back issues of the magazine.
