Letter: It shouldn’t take 60% to ban fireworks

The County Commissioners’ “precondition” of a 60% voter turnout along with at least 60% support of non-binding advisory vote, before considering a prohibition of consumer fireworks on the peninsula is telling: they don’t want it to happen.

I’m very disappointed they’re so opposed to having a serious discussion about this issue. It shouldn’t take more than a simple majority to be willing to talk about a ban. Our elected commissioners are tasked with listening to their constituents, making hard decisions, and sometimes even having to act against their own personal desires or interests. The City of Long Beach got it right: listen to the voters without setting an arbitrary threshold.
Please vote and support the fireworks ban.
