BEND — Members of the Hilltop Middle School boys basketball team concluded their season with a 3-1 record at a state championship weekend.

The success meant they placed in the top 10 of the 27 teams in the seventh-grade division at the Oregon Middle School Basketball championships, said coach Jeff Harrell. “Our only loss was to the champions,” he said.

The games were played in the greater Bend area March 11-12.

The boys topped their pool with wins against Lakeridge 49-33 and Estacada 49-34.

That put them in the quarterfinals against North Marion, which powered to a 46-21 win. The team would advance and win the state title.

The Ilwaco team bounced back with a consolation win against The Dalles, 59-42.

On the team were Haddox Hazen, Connor Ryden, Mason Harrell, TaeShawn Hudson, Cody Kaino, Tyler West, Michael Wright, Mark Ragan, Isaac Glenn, Sawyer McClure and Mason Humphreys.

“We finished the season at 45-5,” said the coach.
