ILWACO — “Every Brilliant Thing,” a comedy about a serious topic, is coming to the Long Beach Peninsula.
The play will be performed 7 p.m. Jan 27, 28 and 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at the River City Playhouse in Ilwaco, home of the Peninsula Players whose members are hosting the event.
Tickets are $10, available in advance at Okie’s Thriftway in Ocean Park, Bold Art Gallery in Long Beach and the Olde Towne Trading Post Cafe in Ilwaco, or at the door.
The play is directed by Edward James, a retired professional actor who lives in Astoria. The production made its debut at a storefront theater in Astoria in November. It features Clatsop County actress Terri Baier, who is a teacher in the Jewell School District.
The format has been described as a one-person interactive monologue featuring audience participation. It highlights serious issues like depression and suicide using elements of comedy.
The 2013 script was designed by Duncan Macmillan, a British writer who explained his reason for writing it, “I didn’t see anyone discussing suicidal depression in a useful or interesting or accurate way.” The play has been performed in London, Europe, Australia and off-Broadway.
