Letter: Great Potato Give-A-Way was a gift to the community

Volunteers gathered for a parting photo following a successful nutritional event in Ocean Park.

On Dec. 10, 2022, the Beach Barons Car Club, Lions Club, and Jack’s Country Store successfully gave away six tons of potatoes to the public and the various food banks on the peninsula. The event was scheduled to last four hours, but was so successful that within an hour or so all the potatoes had been given away.

We apologize to those who came by later in the day only to find we were out of potatoes. Fear not folks, we will be doing this again sometime in the first part of January, so be looking for the announcement, and come early.

The potatoes were well received and surprised most folks as they asked: “Why are you doing this, free potatoes?”

After the last sack had been given away, and just before the skies cleared, the crew gathered under the Beach Barons Car Club awning with the empty pallets.

To answer the question: “Why are we doing this?” Because we want to. Because we can. Because it is Christmas.

Merry Christmas from:

Jack’s Country Store, the Lions Club, and the Beach Barons Car Club
