Christmas Vespers this Sunday at historic Oysterville Church

Though mild Christmas weather is expected in Oysterville this year, a 2008 photograph of the historic church in the snow seems the perfect image for Oysterville’s Christmas Vespers.

OYSTERVILLE — Community members are invited to raise their voices in song at a special Christmas Vesper gathering from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25.

Featured will be the many familiar yuletide carols led by Musical Director Barbara Bate, along with traditional Christmas stories told by Dobby Wiegardt and Tucker Wachsmuth and recorder music by Bob Chatfield.

“Carol singing at the little church has been a long-established Christmas custom in the village,” said this year’s organizer Diane Buttrell. “We’ve missed this holiday get-together for the last few years. It seems prophetic that this year Christmas falls on a Sunday, the day of Oysterville’s traditional summer Music Vespers programs!” Buttrell said. “It’s a perfect time for us to join in holiday fellowship!

Those who attend are asked to follow the accepted covid protocols: come only if you have been vaccinated and boosted and are showing no covid symptoms. “And the Oysterville Restoration Foundation will see to it that the heat is on in the little building,” Buttrell said.
