Letter: Pay attention to what candidates say

Listen to the candidates. Don’t vote until you hear the candidates firsthand and then fact-check any broad generalizations or seemingly sensational comments. In the recent debate between our candidates for U.S. representative, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Joe Kent, I heard specific stories of their views, true and false accusations, and soundbites, also referred to as clickbait.

As for me, I see greater potential with Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who has a realistic connection to the needs of people in Southwest Washington including outside the urban areas, rather than Joe Kent who emphasizes positions based on fear.

Town halls and debates are upcoming for all candidates. In-person, live-streaming, and recordings will reveal who these candidates are and what they stand for. Make your vote count.
