Friends of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge Walk
Sunday, August 21, 2022
Join the Friends of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and naturalist Rebecca
Lexa on Sunday, August 21 at 1:00 pm for a guided nature tour to explore the
Willapa National Wildlife Refuge’s beautiful Leadbetter Point trails.
Want to learn more about the animals, plants, and fungi around you? Begin your
nature adventure with Rebecca on the Bearberry Trail that winds through shore
pine forest to the beach. Once on the beach, hikers will discover an area critical
for migrating birds as well as nesting western snowy plovers and streaked horned
larks, which are both federally threatened species. Return on the Weather Beach
Trail, which meanders back through the woods across the peninsula to the
parking lot. The total distance is three miles over relatively flat terrain, sand, and
mud.
Hikers will meet at the northernmost parking lot at the end of Stackpole Road. A Discover Pass is required for parking – https://www.discoverpass.wa.gov/. Please register at https://friendsofwillaparefuge.org/Events to reserve your spot as attendance is limited. Please contact info@friendsofwillaparefuge.org for more information. We look forward to seeing you at Leadbetter!
