State track: Ilwaco’s Thomas 3rd in triple jump; Brundage 7th in 1600m

More events coming as Fishermen compete for honors
CHENEY — Ilwaco earned two individual medals at the WIAA 1B/2B state track meet which began Thursday.
This week’s event at the Eastern Washington University track at Cheney is the first state meet since 2019. Covid restrictions curtailed student athletics in 2020 and 2021.
Ilwaco senior Tazlina Thomas leaped 32:09.75 in the 2B triple jump to place third and earn a medal. The winner, Kyra Gardner of Raymond, leaped 36-04.50.
Thomas will also compete in long jump and join teammates on a relay team.
Another senior, Emma Brundage, placed seventh in the final of the 1600 meters. Her time was 5:39.49. The winner, from St. George’s High School of Spokane, finished in 5:13.25.
Later in the meet, Thomas, Brundage, senior Sabrina Lessenden and freshman Mya Cunningham will compete in the 4×400 relay.
Two Ilwaco boys qualified. Junior Ayden Woodby will compete in the 400m and senior Logan Rousch in the pole vault,
