Letter: Biden just wants to prevent gun tragedies

Hate-riotism. That is the word I heard this morning while listening to the news. My ears don’t work anymore so I invent. But I think hate has tarnished what patriotism used to mean.

My very nice neighbors tell me they hate President Biden so much that they prefer Trump. Of course, they were really saying the word patriotism. But it struck me that so many people think it’s okay to justify damaging our collective good because they hate. They hate the idea that he is trying guide our challenged country into a future where weapons of war are not made readily available to anyone who wants to slaughter grandmothers and classrooms full of 4th grade children. The common denominator is unregulated dispensing of firearms.

Biden is not coming for our guns. He wants to prevent gun tragedies and too many future lifetimes spent mourning the shooting death of innocent loved ones. Other countries have more patriotic citizens who agree with helpful policies put forward by their elected leaders.
