Important Notice Regarding Hydrant Flushing

It’s that time again. The City of Long Beach will be flushing hydrants beginning April 19th through May 2nd. You have probably seen it many times and thought to yourself, “What a waste of good clean water.” Flushing hydrants can be frustrating to both residents and businesses who pay for that water. While it may seem like a waste of good clean water, hydrant flushing is essential to keep your water safe and maintains the integrity of the pipe network. Flushing hydrants is done to not only test the fire flow capacity in the event of a fire, but also to remove sediment and rust from the water lines, and to maintain a proper disinfectant concentration in your service area. So, when you see us out flushing the water system, know we are working to provide you with the safest water possible.
