LONGVIEW — On Tuesdays at noon WSU Master Gardeners present weekly online free programs, and there is also a growing list of in-person classes available for those able to travel to Longview.

March 1, noon, Tuesday — “Setting up a Greenhouse” (online): Former WSU Master Gardener Nancy Chennault will explain everything you wanted to know about the care and operation of a hobbyist greenhouse. You will learn how to get started, what to buy regarding size, temperature control, lighting and ventilation. Nancy will also talk about yard placement, supplies, what to plant and when and even some alternatives to a greenhouse. If you are interested in gardening and own a greenhouse or are thinking about building or buying one, then this is the program for you.
March 8, noon, Tuesday — “Composting” (online): WSU Master Gardener Brian Schlaefli will present how to effectively compost food wastes and garden material.
March 12, 10 a.m., Saturday — “Worm Composting” (in-person): Please join WSU Cowlitz County Master Gardeners Art Fuller as we learn about vermiculture or worm box composting, which is a process that red wiggler worms and microorganisms convert kitchen fruit and vegetable waste (peelings, etc.) into nutrient-rich compost. This is an amazing fertilizer and soil conditioner that will make your garden plants healthier and more productive. You will learn about this method of composting and how to build your own simple composting box. Enrollment is limited to 30 people. (walk-ins cannot be admitted), and masks covering the mouth and nose must be worn at all times in the building to protect all attendees. The cost is $30. All attendees must pre-register and pay online.

March 15, noon Tuesday — “Growing Raspberries” (online): Do you want to grow raspberries this year, but have questions. WSU Master Gardener Tracy Morgan will be presenting on how to successfully grow raspberries. Learn which varieties do well in this area, how to plant them and take care of them for a successful crop.
March 22, noon, Tuesday — “Growing Blueberries”(online): Do you want to grow blueberries this year, but have questions. WSU Master Gardener Art Fuller will be presenting on how to successfully grow blueberries. Learn which varieties do well in this area, how to plant them and take care of them for a successful crop.
March 26, 10 a.m., Saturday — “Plant Propagation in the Garden” (in-person): Roxanne Nakamura, WSU Master Gardener, will discuss the skills. Enrollment is limited to 10 people. (Walk-ins cannot be admitted), and masks covering the mouth and nose must be worn at all times in the building to protect all attendees. The cost for the course is $10 per person. March 29, noon, Tuesday — “Growing Strawberries” (online): Do you want to grow strawberries this year, but have questions. WSU Master Gardener Billie Bevers will be presenting classes on how to successfully grow strawberries.
